For audio files that have clicks/pops or crackle throughout the file, Automatic mode is the best choice as it will save you a lot of time. The Interpolate mode is useful when you want more precise control over repairing clicks, or in some cases where there are a few hard to fix clicks left over after running the Automatic mode. Automatic Declick/Decrackle Mode

Start by choosing the desired Algorithm type for your Declick module. Single-band mode works very well with narrow 'digital' clicks and has the advantage of having a much faster processing time. The Multiband options work well for wider vinyl clicks or thumps and perform great on very uneven audio material such as old recordings.

Before running the module in Declick/Decrackle automatic mode, it is a good idea to look at the Spectrogram display and visually identify clicks to inspect how wide they are, as this will help you see roughly what your Maximum Click Width and sensitivity should be set to.

The ideal setting should remove the most clicks without damaging transients in the program material. For example, drum hits may be mistaken for clicks at high Width and Sensitivity settings.

To better hear what is being removed, toggle the Output Clicks Only control during preview playback. This will let you hear what is being removed from the audio, allowing you to fine tune your settings.

Note: For material with crackle/clicks or pops of very different sizes and lengths, try running Declick/Decrackle in several passes.

Interpolate Mode

To locate clicks, display both waveform and spectrogram by dragging the waveform/spectrogram transparency slider to the center. Clicks will be visible as vertical lines on the spectrogram. To select a click precisely, zoom in and inspect the waveform. While spectrogram will help with finding clicks, the waveform display will help you accurately select click boundaries.

Select the click and press Apply. The click will be removed using interpolation from the surrounding audio data. If the result is not satisfactory, try adjusting Interpolation Order or other parameters. If the click or pop is very long, Interpolate may cause a short level drop. In this case, consider using the Spectral Repair tool instead of Declick/Decrackle.

Opening Files

In this tutorial we will be using the standalone “audio editor” version of RX7.
When you open it, you’ll first see this file window.

You can choose to drag and drop a file or open a file.

We’ve opened the file as shown.
As you can see, we have purposefully chosen a sample that has clipping (digital distortion) in it for this example.
We will be using RX 7 to fix this issue.

Using Repair Assistant

RX 7 comes with various modules displayed on the list to the right, but you may not know whats what on this list if its your first time seeing it.
But no worries, by using the Repair Assistant feature, AI will automatically detect the issues in the audio clip and select/apply various tools to it.

A pop up window will appear after clicking Repair Assistant, so select the appropriate audio type.

Dialogue refers to narration and conversation recordings, while Music refers to instrument, vocal, and other musical recording, and everything else falls into the Other category.
Press the Start Analysis button to begin analysis.

When analysis is complete, you can compare the original to 3 repaired version options.
